Personally I wouldn't care if they let a chimp do the art. I want to read the freakin' book! *NM* Evil_Monkey Send a noteboard - 28/02/2012 12:06:01 AM
I don't really have a link to give you (EDIT - I put one in to his website so you can take a look), but it's been announced today that he'll be doing both the e-book and the print cover for A Memory of Light. Whelan is an extremely well-known fantasy cover artist. Off the top of my head I know he's done the covers for Tad Williams' novels and for Brandon Sanderson's Way of Kings. EDIT - I just remembered he did the paintings for the final Dark Tower book as well.

I'm happy about this, because I really like Whelan's work. He's different from Sweet, he tends from what I've seen to go more for conceptual scenes that he feels summarize the book, rather than specific scenes lifted directly from the text. But he's a very good, realistic artist who draws exceptional human beings. A very strong, clean style.

Whelan is a member of the Science Fiction Hall of Fame, and won World Fantasy Awards for best artist in 1981, 1982, and 1983 before a rule kicked in that said no one can win more than three. He's also won 15 Hugo awards for his art, and was chosen by the Hugo people as the best artist of the past 50 years. So, you know. Strong choice.
