It sounds like Elayne's role in the end game will be fairly "political". With her pregnancy, RJ pretty much removed her from the list of potential "action heroes". I don't think Aviendah's too likely to be often with Elayne again, until the LB is over.

In fact, it does sound like both Elayne and Aviendha may be more important in leadership roles during the LB than anything else. Elayne is well on her way to be the Westlands's answer to Tuon, as a kind of new Hawkwing figure federating nations under one ruler in what amounts to a kind of burgeoning Empire, and it's rather obvious Aviendha's role now is to choose between being a prophet cum leader of the Aiel and try to save her people from the horrors of the vision she's seen if they follow their current leadership (and more precisely, their current worldview/beliefs), or letting them go to their doom. Aviendha has to take on the role of being the Car'a'carn's Wise One now, and likely to play much of his role as the de facto leader of the Aiel, as his wife. And it sounds extremely likely she needs to bring them back to their non-violence roots before TG... I get the feeling her ties with Elayne and Egwene are more for the post LB epilogue for the Aiel - their future, not so much for the LB itself.

Egwene to an extent also has a similar position, returning the Tower at long last to its role as leader of the channelers against the Shadow (and her next challenge now is to open her vision of her "alliance" wider to reunite the male and female Aes Sedai), but in her case it's not as clear, as she also leads the main group of female fighters in the LB and the war state pretty much lift again the ban against taking an active hand herself (not that the Hall can do very much to prevent her from fighting directly in TAR anyway, though I could see them managing to keep Egwene well away from "the front", in effect restricting her pretty much to using TAR in their back if she feels the need to fight).

RJ very much liked the characters to face their "demon" (plural sometimes... eg: Nynaeve got involved with her self-claimed "cowardice", then faced to an extent the two "bad doctors" of the story, the one who set herself up as a tyrant over minds, and the one who was a sadist. Nyaneve always wanted to be the boss of everyone, and she faced women who have taken the means to be the bosses....), Rand of course was the most directly involved with Moridin. I think RJ pretty much set up a Cyndane vs. Egwene match very early on. Though Egwene isn't much aware of this, Lanfear made a fool out of her in TDR. I could perfectly see Cyndane targeting Elayne, but I get the feeling she'll find Egwene on her path sooner or later. There's unfinished business between Lanfear and Rand, but I get the feeling RJ meant to "spare" Rand of having to kill her. RJ wasn't too kind with Lanfear, dismissing completely the possibilty she was a kind of victim and was "tainted" by the Drilling. No excuse, he rather said she was ripe for the Shadow's plucking long before the Bore. We've reached the point in the story where Rand's compassion is a crucial asset, and far from showing it as a triumph that he finally got over killing women, this rather drove him into insane and very dark corners. I tend to think it's over, that for RJ the "weakness" is part of the Dragon's strength and have to be lived with, which likely would mean RJ intended to have someone else spare Rand and remove the Cyndane obstacle from his path at some point.

My feeling it will be Egwene was reinforced further when in TGS Egwene became Lanfear, not the Forsaken, but something like what the woman Mierin could have been as LTT's female counterpart. There she was, a Mother of the Night, dressed in white, high in the night skies, wielding the most powerful san'angreal still remaining to women, as bright as the moon in the night, surrounded by her novice daughters in whiten (like stars), all of them shining in the nightsky with the glow of saidar like Moon and stars, fighting to bring down the creatures and enemies that came in the night. RJ turned her into a Moon Goddess in full swing. It sounds extremely likely she'll face one way or another the woman who self-proclaimed herself the "Daughter of the Night" (she even claims the stars, there's no place for any other lights in the night), now that she's finished off the woman who sought to bring down civilization and knowledge (by destroying her brain, ironically) and who embodies the self-destruction of the Tower from the inside. Next challenge's the Shadow's main woman, I would think.

That leaves Moghedien for Nyaneve, possibly, though I get the feeling Nynaeve could already be done with her direct/indirect involvement with Forsaken. Moghedien wouldn't stand much of a chance anyway, not against today's Nynaeve, with her battle apparatus on top, and women like Alivia and Cadsuane around her! Nah, if Moghedien goes after anyone, she's far more likely to pick the easy prey as usual, and the easy prey right now is Elayne. It sounds like Moridin may have sent her after Mat and Cyndane against Perrin (I'm convinced Lanfear's the one who originally messed with Masema - she's the only Forsaken who had anything like a motive to turn his insanity into an obsession with seeing Rand as the Creator's champion and become his Prophet, and thus it sounds very likely Cyndane was the one who knew of Masema's visions - she gave them to him(!) and when ordered to kill Perrin she tried to use Masema, who used Aram. Moridin sent in Graendal after she failed). In any case, it likely means Moghedien might still hiding in the shadows for Mat, and somehow I find it likely Mat might be hanging around the political leaders like Elayne during the LB, especially if he's to be the Light's main strategist as seems likely (and asset like Mat sounds too precious to be often in the battles, especially once Demandred has realized his value. I think we might not see Mat in the field all that often, before the endgame at SG anyway). And I remind that Moghedien's main claim to fame was to have infiltrated LTT's staff fairly high. It's the kind of things she's good at, and it appears Rand intends to leave the military/leadership aspects to others, so it could be Mat's État-Major Moghedien could infiltrate. I doubt Moridin has given up on his goal of killing Mat and Perrin ASAP.
