Rand is weird to judge, because even if Jordan was still writing it, Rand would still act entirely differently. Rand had been acting depressed and erratic for the last few books, then he had his Soul Splice with LTT, and now he's all enlightened and shit. So, I don't think you can blame any personality differences on Sanderson- Rand is essentially not the same person he was, not by a long shot.

"Stuff happening" is not sufficient to overcome horrible descriptions of it. And judging book 8 of a continuous 12 book series solely on its own merit as a single work s absurd. There are some structural flaws, but not nearly as bad as Sanderson's simple-minded division of aMoL based entirely on geography. Probably because he's infected with that same mental affliction that only permits the reader to notice "stuff happening" and not characterization or themes or atmosphere or parallel character developments.
