"to live you must die" whoohtown Send a noteboard - 23/09/2009 03:18:17 PM
Sort of a crazy theory regarding what the Aelfinn told Rand about surviving Tarmon Gaidon, "to live you must die". What if Rand is captured, and is about to be forcibly turned to the shadow? Is it possible that the "Dragon's" soul is lost to the light forever if it turns to the shadow in any one age?

If you can accept that that scenario is possible, then my thought is that maybe Alivia, who is going to "help Rand die", has no choice but to kill Rand to preserve hope that the dragon will be born again in another age, instead of letting him be turned to the shadow. This could happen AFTER Rand has already sealed the bore, since the good guys really don't have any hope if Rand dies beforehand.

Rand dies so that the soul of the light's champion could live on.

I know some of it is a bit of a stretch, but I feel like the forcibly turning people to the shadow thing is too good a plot device for RJ not to have planned to use at some point.

thoughts?
