Just something that came to mind the other day. On the surface their are similarities, just not sure what to think on this. But given Jordan's love of Southern History... It could be feasible. Thoughts.
Given his role in revolutionizing military organization and artillery, being mistaken for a short man due to tall companions, emphasis on the importance of luck (famous quote I don't have exactly that he prefers lucky commanders to skilled ones), coming from an ethnic minority region of his official country and non-experiential nature of military expertise (Bonaparte got his military knowledge from study and bragged that he never learned anything from his campaigns); I have to say that Mat was inspired more by Napoleon than any other historical figure.
