I think he'll destroy it completely (the Bore, not the DO).
Remember that time in Randland is cyclical. The Bore has been drilled countless times, and will be again and again in the furure. But when the 2nd age (AoL) researchers found the DO they only found a weekness in the Pattern, not a sealed Bore. I assume this is true for all 2nd ages, including he next one. This means that sometimes before the next 2nd age the Bore must disappear completely. That's why he'll have to destroy the Bore, not only seal it.

Still believe that Rand is going to take us out of the cyclical time as non cyclical time was one thing the author said he didn't really like. As for it ending to much like lord of the rings...wouldn't surprise me at all if it did really...
