I'm doing a re-read of the whole series right now and actually just read the scene where she and Elayne were reunited today. Just before the scene, Morgase thinks to herself that after she sees her daughter, she'll retire to her estates in the far West.
I was like, huh? She has 'estates' in the far western part of the country? Like, far away from Gaebril and very near an entire town full of loyal troops and subjects in Baerlon? Why the hell didn't the stupid bitch go there when she fled when she went to the freaking Whitecloaks?!?
And in any case, why the hell didn't she just go to Cairhien? You know, the place where her in-laws still weild power, wealth and influence. We've never heard that the Trakands and the Damodreds had any kind of split after Taringail's death, so why wouldn't she have gone there? I suppose it could be argued that she wanted to avoid the Dragon Reborn, but I don't ever recall reading that concern in her POV chapters. When she is in Amador hawking, she hears that the Dragon has taken Andor and thinks of returning so that she can wrest Andor back from Rand, so I don't think that was a concern.
Remember, her initial goal when she left the city was Kore Springs and Gareth Bryne, and I know he was already gone, chasing Suian and her group. I can't recall exactly now but it seems that in the next book, she just turned up in the Fortress of the Light. I know I'm missing a couple steps here so someone help with this part...

Agreed. Elayne's most unfortunate trait in ToM is excessive & impolitic loyalty

To be fair, I don't think Elaynes playing "Who's the daddy?" for political reasons.

Honestly, Galad joining the Whitecloaks was indictment enough for me.

The Children have been entirely seen through the perspectives of their enemies - hardly a fair shot

Because the world conveniently divides into "the Children" and "their enemies", by mutual agreement.

Well, Amador wouldn't have been my first choice.

I thought Morgase intended to not involve the Whitecloacks at all when she went to Amadicia

In terms of what I would've done, attempting to regain the throne would not have been it.
