One persons "skimmable parts" is another persons treasure. RabidWombat Send a noteboard - 26/04/2011 06:02:35 PM
What if he did something HEINOUS like mix up a horse! Or have Nynaeve wear red! EGAD!!! The NERD-RAGE!!!

The sad thing is, I'm not being sarcastic...there are way too many people who'd go ape if he messed up some tiny fuckin' detail that doesn't matter to anyone but the obsessive. If I was him, I'd reread the series TWICE before each new book!

Also, if he IS taking notes (much like us students take notes on our textbooks and formal "literature analysis" readings) I can understand why it would take him so much longer.

*read a chapter*
*Take notes*
*Read a chapter*
*notes*
etc...etc...

I can see how that would take more time than just a simple re-read.

One person's "skimmable parts" is another person's treasure. I have a feeling that WoT fans are a much more diverse group than the typical SF fan base. (I know RJ mentioned very specifically that he was proud when a book distributor mentioned how diverse the WoT readership was.) There is no possible way the BS can please such a broad fan base. I applaud him for trying the best that he can, though. Any extra time he takes to try to understand Wot better is greatly appreciated. This is especially true of those of us who like WoT for the ways that it is different from the ordinary.

Those people who want BS to crank out another cookie cutter SF novel as fast as he can can just go read another series as far as I am concerned. I don't want a 'perfect' SF book I want RJ's WoT warts and all. Let him have the time to perfect those warts ;) .

Is it just me, or is Sanderson's re-read of WoT taking an inordinate amount of time? - 25/04/2011 08:35:10 PM 2121 Views
I would prefer it if he re-read it 5 times. I don't mind waiting. - 25/04/2011 08:41:31 PM 1090 Views
Same - 26/04/2011 01:12:58 AM 955 Views

My problems with the series have little or nothing to do with Sanderson. - 27/04/2011 10:50:15 PM 822 Views
Why should you care. Just stop reading the series. - 28/04/2011 09:45:17 PM 930 Views
It's not like he's just reading for the hell of it. - 25/04/2011 09:31:18 PM 1150 Views
Then what the hell is Maria being employed for? *NM* - 27/04/2011 10:50:46 PM 435 Views
As a backup that he can go to when he can't take time to reread. - 27/04/2011 11:15:48 PM 855 Views
He probably doesn't think he can afford to skim; which bits are the trivial ones? - 26/04/2011 04:36:56 AM 885 Views
Sanderson of all people should know what bits are trivial by now - 27/04/2011 10:52:00 PM 746 Views
Maybe, but better safe than sorry. - 28/04/2011 03:28:19 PM 803 Views
Trivial is in the eye of the beholder. - 28/04/2011 09:52:52 PM 842 Views
