I'm in the middle of a full re-read in e-book format and am up to Crossroads of Twilight, chapter 19. About the middle of the chapter, a sitting of the Hall is called and a good description of seating arrangements is given.

It is stated, in desctribing the physical aspects of the Hall, that "...two lines of benches slanted away from the entrance in groups of three, sitting atop cloth covered boxes in the colors of the Ajahs."

A short time later, it is relayed that seating during a Sitting of the Hall, "By tradition, the two oldest Sitters could claim the places closest to the Amyrlin Seat for their Ajahs... After that, it was a matter of who came first and wished to be seated where, the first arrival always choosing her Ajah's place."

For some reason, I always thought that there were something akin to 'assigned seats' in the Hall, that the Ajahs always sat in the same places, atop a box in the color of their Ajah. That's clearly wrong, as shown in the quoted passage above.

So does that mean that each of the boxes is painted in ALL the colors of the Ajahs, like a rainbow? That, in addition to the Amyrlin Seat itself (the throne, not the person) being painted in all seven colors, as well as the Amyrlin's stole. We also have a description of the floor tiles of the White Tower's Hall saying that they are also all the colors of the Ajahs.

Is this just the most butt-ugly, riot of color room in the world?!? Who in their right minds would decorate anything like that? Do you think this was a case where RJ described each thing separately before putting it all together and didn't realize he'd made so many different things in the same place so many different colors? It just makes no sense. I'd think it would give somebody a headache just to look at it.

I know, I know, not the most earth shattering discussion but it's been so quiet here recently, I thought it was at least something that hasn't been dissected to death already.
