Irregardless, WHAT do YOU think was Graendal's 'motivation' in purposely coming to murder Asmodean OR even purposely coming within 2 inches of Rand, Asmodean, and other Aes Sedai to 'accidentally' have the chance to kill Asmodean?

Well thats easy. She was there to get agents in the new territory that Rand conquered. She came to either check in with agents she already had there or to make new ones to keep tabs on what was going on there for in the future. Rand ends up spending a good deal of his time there. With agents in place she can keep tabs on exactly what he is doing or what he will do. She was probably using Compulsion on a palace servant when she was walked in on by Asmo which just happened to be a coincidence due to Tav'eren effect.

She immidiately Balefires him so she wouldn't be found out because she absolutely needs her agents to keep tabs without Asmo spilling the beans that she was there. Certainly she had no choice in the matter when she was discovered. She probably should have come in with a mask of mirrors on her so she wouldn't be recognized by Asmo or Rand accidentally but she didn't and thats what led her to kill Asmo. She couldn't be discovered by the traitor because he had thrown his hat in with Rand.
We don't know as readers how Asmo would have reacted. Would he spill the beans and tell Rand she was there? Or would he have just asked her to get him the hell out of there? She got surprised in that servant cabinet and she instictively killed the traitor to the dark one. She was there to use Compulsion on new servants or get reports from old ones. I tend to lean torwards her Compulsing new agents because if she wanted a report she could have gotten one a different way than how she did it.

And remember with tricks even the light side knows now she could have easily been in say livery with a broom in her hand with the weave to conceal she can channel and she could have reversed her weaves so no one would feel her channel at all or even see what she was doing if she were in the same room with Avi, Egwene, Elayne, Suian and Moraine. She was never in any danger of being found out that way unless Cadsuane was there and even then there were say only Avi to feel if she channeled and she was even shown being all wierd and distracted at the fountain when Asmo walks to find the good wine he needed to forget that he was pretty sure he had just died and brought back by Rand's Balefire.
