Re: I think you are mistaking what RJ meant effective to mean. Kieran Send a noteboard - 03/02/2011 07:06:50 PM
The balance is that men can handle more of the One Power flowing through their bodies in general, and in certain Links, they need to lead. In all fairness, it's a nebulous question. It is somewhat like asking 'Women can get pregnant and men can't. What is the men's balance for this?' I don't believe any of these abilities were supposed to be "balanced with each other" insomuch as they were simply facts to be dealt with.

Of course we all know that neither men or women can get pregnant on their right? It takes at least one of each in the act :p

Linking on the other hand does not require a man, it is optional, however I do get the idea your trying to put across.

Let's not forget that RJ made the strength and Dexterity "rules" as a trending guideline. Men are on average stronger, however Lanfear was almost as strong as LTT/Rand. Women are on average more dexterous with their weaves, however I'd Bet Rand/LTT are more dexterous than all but perhaps Lanfear.

Men do have an advantage with their strength. More men can open gateways unaided than woman. Women can link to achieve this same end, but that requires trust and time. This concept could be said of any weave that requires a lot of the power, or raw strength.

I would argue that some of the comparisons being made are flawed as well. When Nyn was locked in a power struggle with Moggy, it was everything she had thrown at her, and vise versa. Moggy got stuck in an arm wrestle instead of the boxing match she could have won. Rand and Asmo did not. They were leveling mountains and throwing massive attacks at each other. They boxed, Asmo was the trained professional, Rand the untrained brute. I would say that because the two battles were completely different that the Moggy is less "strong" than Asmo is moot.

Moggy ( raw str ) = Nyn ( Raw str )

Rand ( Str+Dex ) = Asmo ( Str+Dex ) (with rand being stronger, but less dexterous)

And Rand ( raw str ) ? Nyn ( raw str )

Therefore we can conclude that Asmo (raw str) is less than Moggy ( raw str ).
