As quoted by Skeeve above, they knew which house to skim to. Therefore there is no issue with how things went down.
You need to be very familiar with the place you are going to - it will take you from anywhere at all to a fairly narrow set of destinations. Travelling is the opposite. Learning a place is not trivial, which is the only reason skimming is even used.
The house was only chosen during the attack, which does not leave enough time to prepare the place for skimming (unless you take the view that Guybon was crazy prepared and had the Kin prepare a gateway into a house in every street of the city. I don't think that's likely.)
The Kin have been in Caemlyn for months and their knowledge of specific areas could well have been incorporated into the plan from the beginning.
Mat: "I have an idea"
Sumeko: "it will have to be in one of the following areas so I can make the gateway"
Mat: "Okay, I'll set it up to end up in one of these places and send a messenger to you when it's finalized"
Sumeko: "For a man you are only sort of stupid"

Yes, RJ confirmed that Shadowspawn can't survive gateways. *NM*

They prepared a place, and it just happened to be within walking distance of the attack?

Please re-read the chapter. It expalins a lot.

Likely picked from a handful of pre-determined locations based on where and when the attack occurred

Perhaps, but I don't think so.

Not realty. Caemlyn is huge by the standards of the time but realistically it's tiny

The sizes I proposed are not huge (well, they would be by standards in the middle ages but not now)

I believe Caemlyn is less than 300k people .... That's what .05% the size of London?

That would be an error if it hadn't been Skimming (the platform and what not) they were using.

It is an error because they opened a skimming gateway to the house (from the skimming place)

I'm confused now as to what you're arguing. They knew the location of the house.
