But really, I'm astounded by how bald his writing is. One thing I get annoyed by is when people use "like" instead of "is." "It's like I've been betrayed" is a dumb thing to say if your spouse cheats on you. You've been betrayed. There's no "like" there.
I was speaking about a general pet peeve, though I know I might not have written it clearly. Or connected it to my statement about the book.
Using "like" 100% incorrectly is a pet peeve, but people can and do instinctively use comparisons (metaphor and simile) often...
From BS, I was surprised by how many passages were so direct they seemed taken from a synopsis.
