He is ta'veren, part of the reason he goes to the Eye with Rand and Perrin. Moiraine recognizes them all three as ta'veren. Early in the Dragon Reborn as Egwene and co. approach Tar Valon, there is comments about his luck at dice, or dissaproving about his gambling.
His ta'veren luck really manifests fully in Tar Valon as the Pattern pretty much forces him to Tear to be there in time for the fall of the Stone.
