It's a shame - no real loss considering all of the "red shirts" the series eventually accumulated.

RJ himself was very inconsistent with the level of detail he applied to this series; at one point, he commented that he didn't think it was necessary to show all of the major Forsaken at The Cleansing because "it would add to the length of the battle scene if he showed everyone". Considering he described so many dresses, it's odd that characters much more important than any ones' wardrobe are over-looked. And ironically, this was the same battle scene in which he forgot to reference a LS AS, leading to speculation that she was Black Ajah that he had to do away with.
There is a decisive point where you can detect some exhaustion in the level of detail he brought to the climaxes of the various books - it's made a bit more murky by the fact that POVs should fill in the dramatic gaps to height the tension, and often did in the beginning, and by the end of the series he would not even bother using more than one to cover major events.

What's the deal with the "extra person" in the artwork for Eye of the World?

Apparently there is an extra person on the front cover and inside cover.

Apparently that's who Brandon Sanderson was talking about. DomA has good points, though.

"Only red shirts die" - tell me about it. Wheel of Time is worse than Harry Potter.

Maybe I'm a sap, but I prefer "only red shirts die" to George R.R. Martin's "only red shirts live." *NM*

This is being judged on an absurd standard.
