Re: "They had not known where-or if-the gholam would attack him"

The problem is that the place for this ambush was no pre-planned
Um, yes it was. They had not known where—or if—the gholam would attack him, but Guybon had done his job well, getting everyone out of the nearby buildings, then picking a hallway that the Kinswoman would make the gateway into. He'd sent a member of the Band to tell Talmanes where to go.
Er... That means that Guybon had been tracking Mat and quickly picked and prepared a place for the gateway while the attack was happening. That is not enough time to learn a place for a gateway (even holding the power). This is what I meant when I said it was not pre-planned. I mean, it's not like Guybon could have prepared an ambush in every street of the entire city, instead he managed to do it right next to where the gholam attacked.
They prepared the place where to kill gholam long before that. It was explained after the battle was over, they asked Kin to prepare gateway for that and Kin weren't happy to aid in the battle. Burning of the house though, wasn't prepared and happened by mistake.
An annoying gateway error.

Yes, RJ confirmed that Shadowspawn can't survive gateways. *NM*

They prepared a place, and it just happened to be within walking distance of the attack?

Likely picked from a handful of pre-determined locations based on where and when the attack occurred

Perhaps, but I don't think so.

Not realty. Caemlyn is huge by the standards of the time but realistically it's tiny

The sizes I proposed are not huge (well, they would be by standards in the middle ages but not now)

I believe Caemlyn is less than 300k people .... That's what .05% the size of London?

You aren't seriously comparing modern population densities to medieval ones, are you? *NM*

That would be an error if it hadn't been Skimming (the platform and what not) they were using.

It is an error because they opened a skimming gateway to the house (from the skimming place)

I'm confused now as to what you're arguing. They knew the location of the house.

I stand corrected. Though I will say that the uses in the books don't match the definition.
