I imagine that part of why BS is not doing a lot of foreshadowing and delving in depth in character's thoughts about the events, is that he is limited to three books and must tie up events/plot lines in that amount of time. If RJ were still around, he'd probably be stretching it out even more and we'd have a couple more books to look forward to in order to satisfy everyone's curiosity about everything, but that is not fated to be, alas.
