But the image of lemmings just fits the Aes Sedai so well.

They had to be convinced to accept the woman who helped Heal saidin, Restore tainted men to sanity from the touch of the Dark One, revolutionized Healing methods and figured out how to Restore connections to the Source. Talk about whistling as you pass through the graveyard. It's not surprise that any Aes Sedai who has done anything that means anything in the grand scheme of things was a private rebel, going against the grain by leaving the Tower to go into the world or to keep themselves apart from other Sisters in secrecy.

I always wondered about the apparent scarcity of Aes Sedai in the Blight-border in the Eye of the World. Having just one sister near the frontlines is a wonder the Shienarans can hardly believe.

I know they were evil but at least the 13 blackies actually got off their asses and went to where the action was. I can well imagine them sneaking to the dusty power-object stores picking long neglected ters and crowing in delight that finally, FINALLY, they would be doing something with their lives.
