Rand still feels guilty for the deaths he's caused. I'm not saying her return will bring any huge change in him now, just putting that out there.

He also still has trust issues.

I will need two women I trust in the circle with me. I have not decided upon the other. Aviendha or Elayne, perhaps. But you for certain.


This jumped out at me the first time I read it. I've thought since the prophecy Min mentioned in TGS that it would be Rand, Nynaeve, and Moiraine with Callandor, and this quote from Rand makes me even more certain.

And then there's the more boring (but relevant) thing that's already been mentioned. She has information from the Eelfinn for him. She's definitely unique in that way since she's probably the only one who's bargained with them besides Mat and Lanfear since the doorway was moved to Rhuidean.


I think if Rand was aware that Moiraine was alive he'd choose her over Elayne or Avi. So once he finds out, she'll be the third in the circle.
