TBH, I didn't notice a huge difference, aside from the fact that in ToM we saw less of the pre- and post-battle and more of the battle itself. I think Brandon's style of writing the battles isn't far of from RJ's style, so I didn't really have a problem here. The only thing that was a bit off was Rand's perfect timing (though to be fair, he came far to late to save the bulk of the army, and I'd say that battle was ultimately a greater loss for the Light than the Shadow).
