In fact, Seandar was the invaded country. Luthair Paendrag took his army over there, established an empire, then brought it back.

And Rand himself realized that the Seanchan empire is not a bad place to be, except for 3 things:

1. Single absolute ruler (albeit currently a benevolent dictatorship)
2. Da'covale
3. Damane

Take those away, replace the damane and da'covale with the AOL definition of Aes Sedai and Aiel (basically servants of all), and you have a pretty awesome society. Not sure how to go about replacing the Empress though... Mat and Tuon will need to be better parents IMO.

I hate to say this, but this is nonsense. The fact that Hawkwing ruled the continent is utterly meaningless now. That was a thousand years ago, and to say that the Seanchan have some claim to the indepentent nations now is just plain silly.

If that were a valid reason, Rand could go to Tuon and say that since HE (as LTT/First Among Servants) basically had political control of pretty much the entire world in AoL, that means that both the current continent and the Seanchan one belong to him, since his claim predates Hawkwings claim by two millennia.

No, the Seanchan are invaders who are attacking and conquering nations and people that have their own cultures and who owe no allegiance to some king who died ages ago. The Seanchan claim is nonsense, and it seems that Hawkwing himself agrees since HE fought AGAINST the Seanchan alongside Rand&co when they came to conquer Falme.

As for being bad otherwise, I would say that dictatorship and slavery (both damane and otherwise) are pretty bad things. Sure, other nations do it too to some extent, and so did our real world, but today such things are considered to have been utterly wrong. Two wrongs don't make a right.

It seems odd that Rand/LTT would be so willing to kneel to Tuon, now that he has LTT's memories. Slavery is abhorrent even to Rand who grew up in a farm. How more horrific would LTT who grew up in the idyllic AoL find the practise?

I really hope that Aviendhas vision was false, and Rand does NOT submit to Tuon. Atleast, not without first demanding that the practises he finds evil are going to be abolished in return.

It seems clear to me that Rand bowing to the Seanchan Empress is the cause of all the problems... - 28/11/2010 09:06:50 AM 999 Views
