Who tried to assassinate Elayne in Cairhien?
Could be anyone. Darkfriends hoping to take out one of Rand's loved ones and greatest ally or Cairhienins hoping to take the throne or some other play in the Great Game. Elayne's own thoughts just after the assassination attempt occurs might suggest it:
"She needed to distract them from their plots, give them work to keep them busy, if possible."
