Comparing Perrin and Faile to Beren and Luthien makes me want to gag.
I think that the question to ask is: will people be reading The Wheel of Time fifty years from now? My best guess is that it will be a very niche market if anyone does read it, akin to reading The Worm Ouroboros in the Twenty First Century.
As for Sanderson, read Mistborn. Seriously. It's better than most of the crap that people recommend at this site. It's certainly better than The Dresden Files, The Chronicles of Amber and anything by Goodkind, and probably better than a lot of other fantasy series that get mentioned around here. Once you've read that trilogy we can discuss Jordan vs. Sanderson with a better sense of perspective.

Political correctness is the pettiest form of casuistry.

he couldn't do much in front of Elayne. The Morgase reunions annoyed me a lot more...

The less you attempt to understand the characters in WoT, the better off you are.

Of course it's formulaic: It's a genre book to a large extent ABOUT the genre.

I hear a lot of that, but I think you may be mistaking Jordans motives, too.

Yes, it would have been nice if Gawyn took a sword to Elayne's baby bump. A shame indeed.
