Hopefully it's not as hamfisted as what Insomdeon suggests; that's certainly plausible, but both RJ and Sanderson are capable of far better, so descending to that would be disappointing. A better use would be Taim and his cabal of turned channelers surrounding the last loyalists only to have Androl pop open a gateway that carries them all to safety, all because Taim thought he could never manage it for all of them. Then it just reinforces the theme of the Pattern humbling the arrogant.
