I don't blame Brandon so much for this, as 'Team Jordan'. Brandon is (as everyone almost is) a product of his time and experiences. That he writes using more modern (20th/21st century) terms as he's writing Wheel of Time shouldn't be a problem.
He should be able to use those so he can concentrate on the story, not having to stop every 2nd sentence to check if they are too contemporary. That'd be a good recipe for the books taking 3 times as long and him giving up on writing them.
However, once the story has been written and submitted for editing and continuity checking any of these terms should be removed. Continuity for me is not just that person X is left handed up to KOD and Brandon has them right handed by mistake and it needs correcting. It's the language used - both in general and by particular characters.
I'd rather 'Team Jordan'/ TOR had have had TGS/TOM come out a month or two later and they'd gone through a more thorough check. For language, typo's and general continuity issues. It's these highly avoidable flaws that are in the two books, due to the rush to get them to market that are unforgivable to me. Over the years to come as we read or re-read TGS/TOM the memories of waiting for them will have faded, but the flaws will still be there.
You can be late only once, you can be bad forever. Unfortunately there's parts of the later in the rush for the dollar.
p.s. AMOL should have the word tempest banned. TOR - give BS a thesaurus with it nailed open to the page with Storm on it!
