These are really good ideas and they make me wonder even more about Callandor. Perhaps the taint-magnification is nothing more than a disruption of the "light-shield" or the normal barriers in place in all channelers that block the DO from easily corrupting the soul.

Possibly. The light-shield in Rand's mind is unique to him (Naeff did not have one but we know he is not a darkfriend), but it could be that Callandor can do something to it. And given how much of the taint there appears to be in Rand's head, any disruption of the light-shield would likely be a very bad thing.

We know that a number of things can make a person more vulnerable to the DO's influence, such as swearing oaths to him, the 13x13 trick, chaos and despair, etc. Some design flaw (or feature?) in Callandor seems to reproduce much of these vulnerabilities and I am afraid that when Rand uses it that his light shield will be destroyed and the incredible creeping darkness will allow the DO to try and seize his mind.

Yes. Another possibility that just occurred to me is that Rand may end up having problems at Shayol Ghul. How will his light-shield maintain full power, when in the presence of the very source of darkness that is the DO.

My guess is that the darkness Nyn saw was not something Rand had always been struggling with, but an effect of channeling the True Power. Moridin/Ishy channels so much of the True Power that he can literally hear the Dark One's voice in his head and when he was Ba'alzamon channeling the TP let others see through his eyes into the raging fires of the Pit of Doom, ie the Dark One himself.

This I do not entirely agree with. Naeff has not been channeling the TP, and yet Nynaeve saw the same kind of darkness with the same kind of thorns in his mind. That makes it clear that this is indeed caused by the taint. The darkness in Rand's mind was like that, with the same kinds of thorns, only MUCH bigger and vaster.

Now, it is certainly possible and even likely, that using the TP may have given the darkness in Rand's head an extra boost of power, allowing it to spread. Or perhaps using TP caused the light-shield (if it was already there) to grow dimmer, allowing more of the pre-existing taint to reach Rand. But TP is not the origin of the darkness in Rand, the taint is.

I do agree otherwise however that using TP, especially in the vast amounts that Moridin is using is probably giving the DO significant power over him. The analogy about Ishamaels firey eyes being a reflection of the pit of doom is, I think, an accurate one. I wonder if maybe in the final book, the Saa in Moridin's eyes will reach a point where his eyes will burst to fire. I think that would be cool/fitting.

So it seems to me that even more than the unintended effect of the taint, channeling the pure essence of the DO gives him a hold on your mind/soul through which he can see the world and act through the channeler. I believe this is the not-yet-seen consequence of Rand's use of the TP and Callandor may be the force that lays Rand bare to Shai'tan and robs the Dragon of his Light-Power.

Maybe. The link with Moridin may also have something to do with it. I mean if TP is the pure essence of the Dark One, and Moridin is essentially absorbing the DO into himself and becoming some kind of human/DO-hybrid, then soon we may have a situation where rather than being just linked to only Moridin, Rand will end up directly connected to the Dark One aswell.

That cannot be good.
