Well that's the impression I got of Mat's battle with the Gholam. The building on fire, and the Gholam falling forever in the Skimming place.
I don't think it's an *exact* parrallel, however; we aren't given much reason to sympathize with the Gholam. It's one of the most flat-out evil, nasty creatures in the series.
I was talking about the scene itself, compared to the old horror film. When I read that, that's what came to mind.
The past is just that, the past. You can only truly live by looking to the future!
