I believe they're called, "politicians" though LTT certainly goes beyond that to "statesman". Joel Send a noteboard - 14/11/2010 01:16:38 AM
Like Ishamael was a renowned philosopher, Graendal was a great sage, Semirhage was a healer, Lanfear was a unsurpassed gold-digger :P, Belal was a judge(???) and so on.

What was LTT good at? How did he become leader of the Aes Sedai? Was it because he was most proficient with the One Power? In what sense? What could he do with it that others could not?

Beyond that, as the others have said, he mostly seems to have just been more skilled and powerful than his (for lack of a better word) peers. Demandred may give us the best idea; the BWB styles him (accurately or not) as essentially LTT-1, so it's easy to see LTT as just a touch better in all the same areas, areas in which we already know LTT excelled: Strategist, administrator, swordsman, leader and, of course, channeler. There are other similar examples; recall that Be'lal speaks to him of "when we" restored what amounted to no more than Olympic fencing to a deadly form of combat.
Honorbound and honored to be Bonded to Mahtaliel Sedai
