For one thing, it doesn't make sense in reference to the timeline. There is over a month between Rand's epiphany and the meeting at Merrilor at the end of the book. I find it hard to believe Aviendha would take that long to think about what she saw and confer with the Wise Ones.
Aside from that, it would be ridiculous for them to introduce this mystery after it had already been resolved. Team Jordan might not be perfect, but I doubt they are this horrible when it comes to planning a book. It makes no sense.
There are enough pointers in TGS and ToM to demonstrate that's exactly what they did. Avi left in the middle/late TGS by Gateway to the Waste. She runs for three/four/five days to Rhuidean, arriving and passing through the columns before Rand goes to Dragonmount.
This is so that, in AMoL, she'll show up again just in time to warn the Aiel and Rand that he needs to deal with the Seanchan... and then said Seanchan launch their all-out assault.
It took Rand and Co. 14 days to travel from Rhuidean to Cold Rocks Hold. Not 3-5 days. Also, no way to tell if time is wonky specifically in the ter'angreal or if it was just an effect of the shield that was once on Rhuidean and is no longer, but the fact remains that there is over a month between Rand's epiphany and Merrilor. Aviendha was not to Travel directly to Rhuidean, but Amys told her to return quickly once she had passed through the columns.
Aside from that, we know from the wolves that there is no future for Dark Rand. If Rand had not had his epiphany on Dragonmount, he would have destroyed the Pattern. One path leads to the Last Hunt; the other path leads to nothing.

Didn't Avi's daughter imply that she knew her?

Right, but I couldn't recall if she also had to ask about her mother. *NM*
