Be'lal is my favorite Forsaken because I thought he seemed cool when he was introduced. I liked his scene with Rand, I liked how he was a blademaster (even cooler that he was after a sword sa'angreal!), I liked his name, I liked how Moiraine talked about him like he could basically shred them all with a thought (now we know this is bullsh*t, but at the time it seemed scary), I liked his backstory (envy is something that I can sympathize with, even if it doesn't excuse his turn to the Shadow), I liked how he looked. He just struck me as an interesting character, even if he wasn't used much. Even his death, as much as I hated it, preserved the idea of the Forsaken being badasses (the only way to stop him was with a cheap shot of forbidden magic while he was distracted). The bad guys are almost always my favorite characters, and this one impressed me. I honestly expected to end up liking other Forsaken more as I continued with the story, but it was at this point in the story that the Forsaken started being shown as more buffoonish and far less impressive than I originally expected. So Be'lal was basically the last Forsaken who came across as a badass to me, and so he stayed my favorite, even though I now know he was probably as big of an idiot as the others. Maybe getting whacked early on was the best thing that could have happened to him
