It's genetic. Elayne and Gawyn got the brunt of it. Former is a princess (not the nice term) and the latter is a ponce. Galad is 1/2, but that half is still potent in its idiocy.
And of course, our woolheaded sheepherder can be a dunce but at least LTT's wisdom/memories are now setting him str8.

10 chapters in, I didn't hate Galad until then. UGH, the stupidity of the line Trakand astounds me.

Isn't his mom related to Trakand? And Moiraine more than makes up for Damodreds' faults.
