...stop reading/watching 99.9% of all literature, books, comics, movies, tv-shows,...

I know the DO's not going to win, just as I knew the Ring would be destroyed, Show-white would live happily ever-after and Picard would be brought back from the Borg.
But I still enjoyed the ride.

Just because you know the destination, doesn't mean you can't enjoy the journey or at least wonder "how will they solve THAT?" when the characters encounter an obstacle.

And besides, even though we know the DO will win, we still don't know who will be alive to see it happen. Or on what side... One of the second-tier characters (no superboys or -girls allowed) being turned to the Dark. One of the Forsaken repenting. Olver getting killed because he cheated at Snakes and Foxes. (Did somebody mention an unfulfilled role for him recently? ;) )

But your examples did make me smile. I would love to see Mat in rehab.
"My name is Mat, and I'm a gambling addict. I have not gambled in four days... " *applause by all present* *quiet encouragement from the group discussion leader* "... but I'm absolutely sure I'm still able to turn this quarter into a pile of gold in a matter of days!"
And Nyn's accident made me laugh. I'm a bad person.

EDIT: See that Simon? "NOT" I was misquoted. Damn paparazzi.
The mystery deepens... I think. *MySmiley*
