On the subway I definitely listen to music. Sometimes to Lanndon Blackmon's great WoT music (link below) or if it's a long ride - it takes 2 hrs to get to work by train - then what ever is on my cowon.
At home I usually read in silence, but if I've got a neighbor cutting the lawn or some other noisy distraction I'll listen to something on Sirius, usually either new age or liteish electronica.

not all music has words, and even if it does, if you've heard it multiX then it's easy to tune out *NM*
