They're AES SEDAI, a group that is practically DEFINED by their literal, legalistic approach to oaths.



The only justification I can see for this is that the DO already knows about this loophole, and for some reason refuses to/can't change it.

The possible scenarios have typically boiled down to

1) They know what they are doing, there must be some reason for doing something that counterintuitive/counterproductive.

2) They are just plain dumb (aka, Jordan plot convenience).

Historically, the latter option has proven overwhelmingly correct.
