There was an easy solution to this - tell the readers each chapter!

Each chapter under the chapter number / name, have the date (on the WOT calendar) the chapter starts. Readers could immediately tell where chapters sit on the timeline instead of trying to do convoluted match ups. The story would then get told plot wise how Brandon/Harriet wanted it, but people could if they want read it chronologically. A win-win for little hassle and minimal cost (maybe 0.1% more ink required!).
It's still something that could fairly easily be added to later editions of TGS / TOM and could be added to AMOL.

For the record, my mom didn't like it either, and she's a casual reader (has read each book once)
