Well... Tamyrlin Send a noteboard - 26/09/2010 06:30:54 AM
but it's a good place to put it so I never have to make a topic about it :)

He uses "froze" too much. That's the big flashing Vegas arrow for me that "RJ did not write this."

"She froze." "He froze."

Egwene froze about 20 times in TGS

These are the instances of he froze/she froze in the Eye of the World. I didn't include the arm froze and such kinds because it seemed redundant. Although it appears that Jordan got out of the habit of using it so often, or Harriet edited it out. But as you point out it is used more often in TGS, although not so much that it bothered me.

CHAPTER: 7 - Out of the Woods
"Mistress Moiraine . . . I mean, Moiraine Sedai." Both turned to look at him, and he froze under her gaze. Not the calm, smiling gaze he remembered from the Green. Her face was tired, but her dark eyes were a hawk's eyes. Aes Sedai. Breakers of the world. Puppeteers who pulled strings and made thrones and nations dance in designs only the women from Tar Valon knew.

CHAPTER: 13 - Choices
In the shadows, Rand shifted. A twig snapped under his foot. He froze instantly, sweating and holding his breath, but neither of the women looked around.

CHAPTER: 14 - The Stag and Lion
He froze half crouched not far from the polished table, and looked at the man by the fireplace. It was better than looking at the fireplace stones, or at the sky.

CHAPTER: 15 - Strangers and Friends
The ragged man saw him then, and froze in mid-step, heedless of people who all but stumbled over him. The last doubt in Rand's mind vanished.

CHAPTER: 20 - Dust on the Wind
He froze, not even breathing. He was hidden in the shadows, one step from the corner. Frantically he thought of backing up. What was behind him? What would make a noise and give him away? He could not remember, and he was afraid to take his eyes from the corner of the building.

CHAPTER: 24 - Flight Down the Arinelle
A flicker of motion caught his eye, and he froze where he was, half crouched against the polished guardwall around one of the spire tops. It was no hiding place.

TITLE: Eye of the World
CHAPTER: 29 - Eyes Without Pity
He froze in a crouch as they milled over the trees. The Dark One's Eyes. Did they see me? Sweat trickled down his face.

TITLE: Eye of the World
CHAPTER: 30 - Children of Shadow
He froze, holding his breath, hands tightening on his axe haft.

CHAPTER: 37 - The Long Chase
She froze, trying to make herself a part of the ground. Nearly in front of her, not ten paces away, they marched to a halt with a stomp of feet, facing each other, spears shouldered. Just beyond them she could make out shadows that had to be the horses. The stable smell, horse and manure, was strong.
