IF NOT MORE SO???

I remember both characters being pretty good POV reading when I read the series the first time, but the more I reread the less I like these characters. I think Nynaeve may actually be MORE annoying than Faile. She's still entertaining me, at least.

I think there is a REAL difference between Nynaeve's POV from the first two books and the later books. For such a strong character she's got some fairly shallow, perhaps even frivolous, downsides to her character depth and development which starts in book 4 and doesn't really get out of the way until book 9 or 10?

The first POV we had from Nynaeve in EotW was really good, she was strong and confident and didn't act like a totally temperamental, shallow, and competitive idiot. She was competitive, but in a kick ass way, like how she was able to track Lan through her woodcraft (which, btw, we've never really seen her do again).

The moment she really started kicking ass again for me was when she went through the Borderlands and spread the word that Lan was coming through. The seemed more original Nynaeve to me.

I've always thought Nynaeve was the TR person who had the hardest time in the real world. She came out of EF as an adult with huge responsibility in her life and was forced to regress into the role of a girl again. It's almost like she has had to re-grow up since she left being Wisdom behind. She went through a long stretch where she seemed to have devalued her experiences in EF and thus had lost a part of her identity. Something no other EF had to deal with that early on.

Contrast her to Egwene who was still a child when when they left EF and it's rather obvious as to why Egwene had an easier time accepting new things. I think many people see Egwene as disloyal, personally I see all of her shifting about as part of her growing up. She attached herself to the strongest "mother figure" around her so she could learn to be a stronger woman. Meanwhile, Nyneave had to regress before she could become more than just the Wisdom.

I think TGS showed us how much Nynaeve has both grown and finally been able to learn to use her past life experience. To me that was the first POV from her since tGH where she hasn't been a silly girl.
