Rand: ...I'm not sure. I've always had the hardest time really putting my thumb on Rand's character which is unusual for me. Looking at only his original characterization (before all the "crazy" interfering) he seems the most "normal". Different, a follower (Tam, often ends up being dragged into Mat's games), more "dog-like" than any wild animal. BUT, this is with a different type of characterization from the AUTHOR (i.e. characterization of the hero vs. his friends) So I've never really had a good answer..
Rand was deliberately written in a more vague manner because this makes him easier to identify with.
Possibly, they fit the 3 RPG stereotypes: Warrior (Perrin), Assassin/Thief (Mat) and Wizard (Rand).
What would be the trio of masculine archetypes, and how would the ta'veren fit them?

I wonder if those are the archetypes on which the buddy-cop dynamic is based.
