Obviously weaves like balefire and compulsion survived the Breaking (unsurprising that "combat weaves" did really... it's probably the area the Breaking era people were mostly taught in... while they had no time to teach and preserve all the rest) because at some point the White Tower specifically outlawed both weaves. There's no point to that if knowledge had vanished then. I think the Green Ajah, dedicated to fighting the LB one day, has secretely preserved knowledge of the outlawed weaves through a few sisters in each generation. Both Cadsuane and Vandene are the type of level-headed no nonsense Greens who could be trusted by the Ajah Head to be repository of such knowledge in their generation.

I don't think any weave can be learned from a written description, though no doubt between all these virtual reality ter'angreal someone in the AOL had figured out how to make a live action visual rendition of weaves (faked, but accurate) for preservation and training (similar to computer graphics) Elayne's "holographic" library may even very well have examples of that. Back then, there must have been tons of very specialized weaves and specialized derivatives of some weaves, and I don't think the AOL were, like the WT and the other groups of the third Age, forced to re invent weaves all the time because weaves could only be taught by a teacher to a pupil and some get lost (especially that back then, a sister might be expected to learn to do things with saidin as well if she wanted to become a mixed gender circle leader). I think there almost certainly existed some channelling multi-media repositories, with visual renditions of weaves and techniques - like you put a VR helmet on and you see holographic renditions of weaves you want to learn.

How did Moiraine learn balefire then? *NM* - 21/08/2010 05:04:27 PM 1115 Views
figured it out on her own, don't forget that Nyn used it too against the Fades in TDR. *NM* - 21/08/2010 05:12:15 PM 465 Views
