Like most of the critical readers here, my criticisms of the first chapter are not about actual content. RJ came up with the content (for the most part of AMOL), and I am never going to blame Sanderson for what occurs. Even how they occur are still Jordan, mostly, although the exact implementation is mostly performed with Sanderson's hand.
What really got me was how different the narration was. RJ's narrator has no personality. There's no thinking, observing, or surmising. It's simple statement of fact--beautifully told, but still simple fact. The facts told are cleverly and selectively picked to withhold or provide important information. But Sanderson delved his narrator's omniscience into one that encompasses the population's psyche. I didn't like that one bit.
