Back after a few weeks! Hey all!
So, I was thinking about what Egwene will do in response to the Seanchan invasion.
It seems to me that she'd have to be a total idiot to wait till the Senachan learn Traveling and start using it.
And when has that ever stopped her?So, I was thinking about what Egwene will do in response to the Seanchan invasion.
It seems to me that she'd have to be a total idiot to wait till the Senachan learn Traveling and start using it.
While she probably has the numerical advantage when it comes to channelers, its been proved beyond doubt that the run of the mill AS is no match for the Seanchan. But with links, they can essentially decimate them, if they play it right.
How? Does being in a link make you invulnerable? All it does is sacrifice numbers for power. They don't need more power behind their weaves - all Aes Sedai are strong enough to kill a person, which is all the strength you need to fight. If the Seanchan can't leash channelers, they are very quickly going to shift to killing them. Their primary reason for leashing channelers is to keep them out of trouble, and gaining their power is merely secondary. All the links will do is create large groups of helpless sisters who will be unable to fight back, because their strength is concentrated in a woman with much influence in Tower or Ajah politics. It's like telling a squad of soldiers "Everyone turn in your rifles, we're selling them so that we can afford a single machine gun which the leader will use to protect the rest of the team." Meanwhile, the crack Seanchan troops with their lesser-powered but far more numerous and better-trained and experienced soldiers will waste the Aes Sedai.Secondly, learn the proper meaning of decimate. It's probably not your fault, as you are simply aping the misuse, but it literally means to kill 10%. If you are being attacked by 100 damane, the fact that "playing it right" has reduced that number to 90 is small consolation.
Further, with roughly 100,000 soldiers under Gareth Bryne answering to her, she has sufficient military strength to be a threat to the Senachan, and she has to know they're going to attack again, this time with more strength.
That's only if Bryne managed to match the Tower's recruiting goal of 50,000 and the Tower themselves reached that goal. It's not that many, and the situation Elayne describes regarding the Borderland army to her nobles in comparison with Andor's forces applies even moreso to the Seanchan in comparison with the Tower's forces. Elayne is talking part-time amateurs versus full-time amateurs. The Seanchan versus the Tower are professionals versus hobbyists. So what will Egwene do?
I strongly suspect that Elaida is the only person taken who knows Traveling. I think it we'll see that Elaida will be the one tortured for info. The question is, can she hold out?
I don't think she's going to simply give it up. Not early, and not easily, anyway. She may be all kinds of idiot, but now that she knows the Seanchan are real, I doubt she'll be willing to help. I think she'll continue to see herself as Amyrlin, and will be waiting to be rescued.
At this point, I think one thing that can happen is that Egwene gets in touch with her in her Dreams. It is doubtful the sul'dam will let her shield her dreams, which means she's going to be open for Egwene to find her and bring her into a dream of her own making.
Which is evil, but hey! When has that ever stopped her?I strongly suspect that Elaida is the only person taken who knows Traveling. I think it we'll see that Elaida will be the one tortured for info. The question is, can she hold out?

Perhaps Elaida will turn spy for the Seanchan and earn her redemption by withholding info on Traveling till Egwene can arrange some kind of rescue?
Bah. We all know how Egwene feels about rescues.

Wouldn't it be dangerous for Egwene to enter Elaida's dream?
