The only other possibility, and it works pretty much only if it happens fairly soon and before Rand returns from DM, is Tam getting killed in Tear, which would be extremely sad as Rand could never apologize and make up to him, and lost his one chance to have a good time with Tam. That fact (that Tam is killed why very unhappy and crushed by what happened to Rand and angry for that at Nynaev, and the whole sadness of all this), and the fact that Tam is an EFer Nynaeve feels responsible for and that she was the one who brought him to Tear would most definitely make her grieve over his corpse, and very badly at that. She would be catastophied if Tam gets killed by a DF or something.
This is purely a possibility (remote, I guess). Having Tam killed by a DF right after he joined Rand is believable (I wouldn't say "likely", it would be a surprise if this happens). It at least fits with Moridin's orders (in that case to Graendal, but it's in general what he wants for Rand) to cause Rand "pains of heart". It would also be a fitting reply to what he must have sensed happened on DM, to suddenly give orders to kill people close to Rand, to try to undo Rand's new hopes/changes of worldview.
Oh well.. at some point, RJ had to bring up the DF among the HL and have him do something of some importance (especially if it's Weiramon, after all the "set up". Maybe he's been a red herring all along, or maybe LTT misjudged him in TGS, and this was a set up for Weiramon doing something soon... but he's not in Tear anyway, he's with, presumably, Logain at the Illian border. The fact he's been tied before to a DF Asha'man makes me think it's in Logain's story line he will finally do something... if he's really a DF anyway).
