Re: I think Galad will lead them to their "epiphany" at TG

However, it will be interesting how they will deal with Perrin & Co. in TGS. It seems likely that there still will be a rather conservative faction (probably Dain Bornhald, Jaret Byar and certainly Asunawa) and a modern faction (Galad, likely Trom or Doirellin, for example). As the TGS blurb indicates, there will be tensions at least. Maybe the conservative faction has to be weeded out yet before TG.
I'm looking forward to that.
I wouldn't count Dain or even Byar with Asunawa. Dain I think is a lot like his father, but young and inexperienced, and the events of TSR shook his faith enough that he he developed a drinking problem. Dain wants to do the right thing, but he doesn't have Galad's moral strength. I think being with Galad is a good place for him. Byar is more of a fanatic, but also I think he's the type that doesn't really question orders much, he sees things in black and white. I think he follows Galad because he's following Dain who's following Galad. But I think he will become loyal to Galad.
I think the important thing with Galad is that he isn't opposed to the AS like the rest of the WC. He doesn't trust them, but he knows from personal experience they aren't all DFs. I think that's one of the areas where the WC went astray, their unreasoning hatred for AS and willingness to label them all DFs.
That brings us to the worst fanatic, Asunawa. He represents all that is wrong with the zealousness of the WC. He has the greatest hatred of AS of all of them, look how he was willing to hang Morgase just for being in the WT, where even that pig Valda wanted to use her to gain power. I think he's happy to ally with thr Seanchan because of the damane.
Asunawa is one of the characters I think may be a DF who hasn't been revealed as such. The Questioners are the faction within the WC that have done the most to pull them away from their original ideals, and it wouldn't surprise me much if Ishy had a hand in that somewhere. The WC are after all a potential force for unity on the side of the light, and Ishy's pulled such forces down before. Witchhunts against innocents is a good way of spreading chaos, and persecution of AS hurts the light. And he's a good way to punish DFs who get sloppy and careless (Paitr comes to mind). If he were a DF, it would also stink of great hypocrisy which fits a rat bastard like him too. Of course, he doesn't need to be a DF at all, so either way wouldn't surprise me. After all, Ishy/Moridin could still manipulate him without turning him, or even take advantage of his zealotry without needing to manipulate him at all.

Their proper name is "Children of the Light." Will there be a discussion on the "Tar Valon Witches"? *NM*
