So, to those soothsayers out there who seem to understand RJ's thinking and who have done a fairly convincing job of mapping out the plot requirements for the remaining books in minute detail:
Sanderson has stated that Demandred's identity is the greatest mystery in the series and that this mystery will pay off in the end.
Clearly, RJ intended the revelation regarding what Demandred has been up to to have a major dramatic impact in the last volume of the series. Hence the tight secrecy and lack of screen time afforded to this character.
Given the deliberate efforts in this regard, it seems likely that the culmination of Demandred's plan was intended to drive the plot in a major new direction - perhaps even drive Rand to his final, desperate act to sacrifice his life to save the world.
Since RJ intended this to remain a secret until the last book, Sanderson now faces the dilemma that the last book has been split into 3.
So in order for Demandred's "big strike" to precipitate the final Act, and retain the sense of shock and awe that was apparently intended to accompany it, it would be difficult to make it happen earlier than the very end of the series - which will now be A Memory of Light.
However, because a lot of the events in the last 3 volumes are happening simultaneously, it might not be possible for Sanderson to achieve this.
Given all of the above, do you think Demandred's identity will be revealed in ToM, or will the suspense be maintained until the very last Wot volume?
