Even if Rand had the blunt dagger, I doubt that the DO wouldn't sense that Rand is using the TP against him. And then the DO could simply cut Rand from the access to the TP; its his essence after all.
You could potentially argue that DO might not be able to sense Rand using the TP if he used it through Moridin.
Basically, think of Moridin as a relay of sort. The DO transfers TP to Moridin, then Rand pulls that TP to himself through Moridin. It is possible in such a situation that the DO would only see the TP going to Moridin and would not realise that Rand had access to it until it was too late.
This might also solve the "TP-fries-at-SG" issue. If the TP went first to Moridin who was not at SG for some reason, and then from there to Rand, then Moridin would act like a buffer, protecting Rand from drawing too much TP.
I also can't really see the TP as a way of repairing the hole in the Pattern, after we saw how destructive the TP is to the Pattern (I seriously doubt that killing the DO would be the way to win, especially after the end of TGS).
I think the idea is that something has to touch the DO in order to him to be sealed. The TP would do this. The TP might not necessarily do the actual sealing.
I used to view this as the DO being there at the bore, keeping it open, and something has to push him away from the bore so that it can be sealed. Basically, the DO might have his foot in the door and the foot must be pushed away before a proper sealing. If you push him away with OP however, he can taint it. But maybe it would be possible to touch the DO with his own power and basically use it to whack him away from the bore, and then use OP/ta'veren/whatever to actually repair the bore.
You might say that TP cannot hurt the DO since it basically IS the DO, but try to think of it as someone taking hold of your arm and then pushing forcefully so that your own hand actually hits you in the face and knocks you backwards. Then while you are reeling from that, the door can be locked before you can get your foot back to the door.
Most Forsaken simply don't want to wield the TP, because it is too addictive and ultimately corrupts & kills you.
Rand dying is one of the major argued prophecies actually. One possibility is that his death is caused by using the TP at SG. This might kill him. His blood on rocks might be caused by channeling TP opening his TP-wound.
Finally, you also aren't allowed to channel the OP at SG. Therefore one could argue in the same way that the OP will be needed to close the Bore (which makes anyway more sense to me).
Umm?
You can channel OP at SG obviously. The DO has ordered the forsaken not to but thats not a universal rule. Or did you mean ot say TP? You can wield TP there, it just kills you. But Moridin-the-buffer might potentially help Rand there.
