Some Twitter Q&A info from BS posted yesterday Etzel Send a noteboard - 15/07/2010 10:49:44 AM
Off to bed. 12%, 18%, 12% cut from latest chapters. Book is under 350k words now. About 35% through the revision.

Q: @BrandonSandrson will the mystery of asmodean ever be solved, or can we just shelve it forever?
A:@elektrotal It will be solved. In either this book or the next one.

Q: @BrandonSandrson If you could play the part of any of the Characters in a Wheel of Time Movie, who would you want to be?
A: @Salkand Narg.

Q: @brandonsandrson You've been quoted saying Rand and Eg will get about the same screentime as Mat and Perrin in TGS. Is this the case?
A: @DukeOfDunstable That is correct. Though it might be a tad more. This book will be longer, and a lot of that is some extra Rand/Egwene.

Q: @BrandonSandrson out of curiosity, do you have a list of the sundry unsolved mysteries in the books? or untied threads and references?
A: @elektrotal Yes, I do. And, I even have a list of ones Mr. Jordan was planning not to answer or reveal.

I realize that knowing Asmo's killer will be bittersweet for some of us. The mystery will be over and done. In some ways, that's sad.

Know this, however: Mr. Jordan listed some mysteries in the notes that are NOT to be solved. Perhaps you should try to guess which ones.

Q: @BrandonSandrson are they not explained, or are they explicitly noted to refrain from releasing the solution?
A: @dpowensj Some of each. There's one that I really wish I knew, but he didn't tell anyone, and said no answer is to be given.

I mention Asmo not because I'm promising it will be in TofM. But because a lot of people are asking. (Just like last year, this time.)

As for the mysteries, there are indeed some that Mr. Jordan did not reveal in the notes. All he said was: "This is not revealed."

Q: @BrandonSandrson One unsolved mystery=is Thom Elaine's real father?
A: @sykoone I'm pretty sure Robert Jordan said that Thom was not her father. I wondered that myself for years.

Q: @BrandonSandrson a lot of mysteries or just a few? And any major ones (without going into specifics, I know you can't)?
A: @kylelitke No major ones, in my opinion, except for a couple of unresolved plot threads he had been saving for the Outriggers.

I can't say much more about mysteries. I've said before that all major plotlines have resolution. Unresolved things are smaller.

Q: @BrandonSandrson For some of us? You wrote it. Was it bittersweet for you? It must be pretty cool to be working on something that moves you
A: @HamletIsDead Yes, it is indeed. Doubly so. As a fan, and as a writer.

14.3%, 14.7%, 13.7%, 15.2% cut from the last four chapters. Really getting into the groove of editing now.

People are curious, so in the next Writing Excuses (Goes up Monday, I think) is on line editng, showing what I'm doing with TofM.

People are asking if the wot books we be re-released with the ebook covers. Tor hasn't said, that I know, but I'd guess it is likely.

Q: @BrandonSandrson did we ever find out who saved Rand from falling in Shadar Logoth? Was it Demandred channeling the true source?
A: @dbressler85 Most think it was Moridin. It can't remember if it is confirmed directly in the books, but it is very strongly implied.

Q: @BrandonSandrson Is it hard for you knowing the answers that no one else will ever know, and you may never get to share?
A: @taloncarde If I have my way, the notes Mr. Jordan will be printed after the series is done. At least in part.

Q: @BrandonSandrson Are the unanswered mysteries at least interesting, or are they like, "who made the baked ham in book 4!"
A: @gruevy Some are very interesting to me.

Q: @BrandonSandrson Are there also some that ARE revealed in the notes, but have an added "but this doesn't go into the books."?
A: @4thAge Yes, there are, at least in implication. Many of these have to do with things I think he was reserving fro the Outriggers.

Q: @brandonsandrson If the outriggers aren't written after all, will we somehow learn what info RJ wanted to include in them in some other way?
A: @DukeOfDunstable Yes, I will push for that to be in the notes we release, if the Outriggers aren't written.

Q: @BrandonSandrson Are we hoping TofM will come out at the end of this year, or is that too optimistic?
A: @DeusExMachina10 It will come out in November, 99% sure.

Q: @BrandonSandrson Has there been any further discussion of the outriggers between you and Harriet?
A: @Darth_Andrea There has not. Just the original "What do you think?" discussion. Basically, we decided to shelve it until AMOL was done.

Q: @BrandonSandrson Most of aMoL was written by Robert Jordan, right? So that book will go faster? Or is that wishful thinking on my part?
A: @HearttLight About the same as he did on TGS, I'm afraid. Lots of notes, few finished chapters. (He did write the ending, though.)

Q: @brandonsandrson I noticed that you mentioned the Outriggers that Mr. Jordan was planning... Are you planning on writing those as well?
A: @MatthewSoddy Short answer: Probably not. Longer answer: We'll decide after AMOL is done, but are hesitant.

Question: Do I write as much as I can in first draft, knowing I will condense?
Answer: Yes and no. I allow myself to write freely in rough drafts, knowing I'll condense. But I try not to overdo it.

Q: @BrandonSandrson Hay, what game is the game "Stones" based off of. Is it chess, or Pai Gow or something. . .
A: @Salkand I've always imagined it as Go, the Asian game with black and white stones.

Q: @Brandonsandrson I've been wondering - how does one make a story fascinating? (maybe I should direct the question to writing excuses)
A: @aviroberts Big question. Excitement can be defined so many ways. I think conflict, progression, and good characters are a start.

18%, 11%, 13% cut on next three. Whew. This is getting grueling. I'm gonna need to buy more Magic cards. (What? The logic works in my head)

Wonder what the unresolved mysteries are. Likely little things like the killer of Sahra Covenry, etc.

In any case, good to hear that BS wants to publish the notes!
