It might be too much of a Tolkein parallel, but I think the OP, TP (the Dark One), and Fain's power becoming one is a possibility.
It certainly worked (minus the TP) at Shadar Logoth.
Fain hates the DO and might want to strike a blow against him. His power is similar to that of Mordeth's and is a counter-evil in the wound in Rand's side.
Fain is very reminiscent of Golem. Maybe the pity of Moiraine in sparing him will still have a roll to play.
I'd say the TP to seal the Bore (via the Moridin link), Fain's evil to insulate the TP from the OP patch to hide the whole thing away (no more discovering of the place like Meirin did).
Have no idea what Callandor has to do with it, but just a thought.
