Because that's how most dreams that I remember feel. They feel real, but they're not reality. Don't really know how much better to put it.
You don't know it's fake, just that it's not... really real? I don't know. I can't really think how to put it.
You don't know it's fake, just that it's not... really real? I don't know. I can't really think how to put it.
Well, it's too far beyond the limits of my imagination, sadly.
Movies and book make people emotional all the time. Now we're talking about a virtual reality that seems to be keyed into their psyche. Doesn't sound too far-fetched to me.
Well yes, like I said, I can understand Nynaeve's sixth test causing such a reaction, but four of the other five were about abandoning people you haven't really abandoned, because it was all imaginary. I don't get how you could feel sad about that, unless it's the guilt of knowing that you would have abandoned them if a voice in your head told you 'The way back will come only once, be steadfast'... but again, that ties in to my assertion that the test favours people willing to abandon their responsibilities on a whim.
And the fifth one is Nynaeve's first test...
And Nynaeve's first test wasn't a choice between leaving and an eternity hunting a Forsaken. She wasn't looking at an eternity, just thinking about finishing that job. She wasn't looking ahead much more than that. The test doesn't have to give them a whole life to commit to, it really just has to distract them for a minute or two.
Except, if she knows it isn't real, there's nothing to finish off, and she won't get the opportunity to come back. There's really nothing in this test that would compel someone who knows it's fake to stay. Now, if you think it's real, you might want to stay, finish him off before he gets a chance to recuperate and come back after you... but if you know it's fake?
The first rule of being a ninja is "do no harm". Unless you intend to do harm, then do lots of harm.
