Yes, I suppose they could. Fanatic-Templar Send a noteboard - 01/07/2010 06:16:38 PM
I have a somewhat basic philosophy that you can always improve something better while alive than dead. Owyn helped his village with the OP before he went insane, so I'd prefer to do that before running off aimlessly to the Blight. The Clan Chiefs should embrace their fates and work with it, rather than mutilate themselves.

Of course, it's a question of how long you can help versus when you start becoming dangerous. You need to be pretty confident in your (steadily declining) judgment. Well, I'll grant that it's not an ideal solution, and they really need to stop now that saidin is clean.

As for the Clan Chiefs, yes, I agree with you that they should, but psychological trauma is pretty damaging. You need time and help to heal, and those Aiel aren't given that. Probably those Aiel could deal with the revelation if it came more gradually and in a better setting (and if they can't, I agree with you that they should be scorned... the Brotherless, for instance, have had ample time to come to grips with the truth of their past...) but then again, the purpose of the test is to find those who are strong enough to accept whatever comes and remain steadfast.

I've got to say that the average Aiel is fanatical to a degree comparable to the Amayar or Masema's Dragonsworn. Think of that one Aielman Rand executes for murdering a Cairhienin, just because that Cairhienin had a Dragon tattoo. Consider in real life what kind of person would murder someone else just because of that. And then, ask yourself if that Aielman (Madric?) was especially deranged, or if you'd expect most other Aiel to act the same...

Aiel are nuts.
