And the fact that the DO can go through it to enter the world makes pretty clear that one can of course perceive it as a special kind of Gateway though the Pattern, which was drilled to the DO's place. Since you can detect and sense it - especially in the Pit of Doom - it has to be some OP weave. This indicates that it should be possible to Unravel as well (though the AoL'ers didn't know it. As indicated in TGS, Rand has to find a way, though, not to touch the DO during ta Unravelling and avoid another counterstrike.

RJ was very careful about the Bore's true nature and obviously didn't tell us everything in the Q&A you mentioned, but decided to give a very general answer:
Q: What exactly is the Bore?
RJ: Well, it is at ... No, I shouldn't say that. It is a thinness in the Pattern that you can feel the most at Shayol Ghul.

That he answered in such a way could precisely indicate that the Bore's true nature as a Gateway would give us the clue to figure out how to close it, namely by Unravelling. Of course, if the world is too chaotic and the Pattern too weak, the DO can probably completely rip open the Bore, therefore Rand has to strengthen the Pattern by bringing order and belief to the world.
